Onlangs is het marineschip Hare Majesteit Van Nes op Bonaire aangemeerd. Ruim 150 mannen (en enkele vrouwen), van de Koninkijke Marine liepen ineens vrij rond op Bonaire. Van die kerels met kaalgeschoren koppies, brede schouders en verdwaasde blik in de ogen. Druk bezig met de voorbereiding op het Gulf-War-Syndrome. Van die militante matrozen die groepsgewijs ‘keet trappen’ op ‘vaste wal’. Van die bonken die wel van een brok alcohol houden. En wanneer de drank in de man is, dan moet er gezongen worden. Ruige zeemansliederen over de woeste onstuimige zee vol met zeemeerminnen, gevaarlijke zeemonsters en verraderlijke zeebanken. Of bij gebrek aan inspiratie dan doet een ‘Hela, hola, laat je tieten nog eens zien’ het ook erg goed. Puike lieden, formidabele krachten, uitmuntende eenheid. De trots van Neerlandse hoop in bange dagen.
Elke dag landen ruim 40 stewardessen (en enkele ahum stewards) van de Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij op Bonaire. Op elk gegeven moment verblijven ruim 80 stewardessen op het eiland. 80 gezellige babbelaars. Olijke poppetjes met een woordenschat dat beperkt is tot twee lettergrepen. Waarbij je laaannngzaaaaaam moet praten niet te ingewikkeld moet doen. (De UN? Dat is toch de UNited States? Ja schatje, precies!) Van die dames die de complexiteit voornamelijk zoeken in de keuze van de cocktail. (Graag een Sex on the Beach met een vleugje lemon en een toefje Tequila en drie druppels Blue Curaçao). Van die meiden die het avontuur opzoeken rondom het zwembad van het hotel en als vaste excursie de hotelbar aandoen tijdens happy hour. Van die prijsbewuste inkopers die om de andere minuut vragen: “Krijg ik ook KLM kortiiiinnnnnning??? Altijd vriendelijk, altijd beleefd, altijd correct, nooit anders geweest. De trots van Neerlands oudste vliegmaatschappij.
Welnu. Doe je ogen dicht en stel je voor dat de zeelieden van het marineschip Hare Majesteit Van Nes op een gegeven ogenblik de stewardessen van de Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij tegen komen op een tropisch eiland terwijl beide partijen een paar dagen verlof hebben.

HIHI & HAHA, zeer vermakelijk wederom. Mijn vriendin is stewardess en we hebben ons liggen bescheuren. JA, het verhaal is waarheidsgetrouw maar de uitzondering bevestigd de regel. Er is nl. een aantal KLM-ers die WEL gestudeerd heeft en de hotelbar/zwembadbar WELverlaat en wat nuttigs met de tijd op hun bestemming doet.
