Ik kijk op van achter mijn PC en zie twee stokoude mannetjes voor de balie staan. Ik denk, die zijn hier vast verkeerd, die moeten bij het bejaardenonderwijs zijn, twee verdiepingen lager. De linker bejaarde neemt het woord en zegt: Meneer, we zijn de surveillanten. Ik denk, 'zo zo!', want ik had nog nooit een surveillant in mijn leven gezien en had daar zo mijn eigen beelden bij. Beelden van een strengkijkende bibliothecaresse met een lineaal in haar hand die zij zonder waarschuwing zou gebruiken. Deze schattige oude van dagen lijken totaal niet op mijn bibliothecaresse.
De linker is aan het woord wanneer ik bij hun kom zitten. 'Ja die jongelui, ze proberen natuurlijk elke keer wat nieuws, maar wij zijn ook aardig bij de pinken'. (hij stoot de Rechter betekenisvol aan, die zich vervolgens in zijn koffie verslikt.).
'Kijk, voor de gelegenheid hebben we nepbrillen bij ons. Die zien er heel streng uit'. De rechter tovert een uilenbril uit zijn binnenzak en zet hem op. Ik schrik. Mijn Bibliothecarsse is de Maagd Maria geworden in vergelijking met dit monster.
Vertel hem over de Kuch Kuch Truuk!', moedigt de ene de andere aan. 'Ach ja, de kuch-kuch-truuk. Dan lopen we wat door de zaal en wanneer we iets verdachts zien, dan kuchen we even heel hard. Schrikken ze zich het leplazerus.' Beiden proesten het uit van het lachen. 'Meneer, ik zal u vertellen, een keer kuchte ik zo hard dat mijn kunstgebit uit mijn mond vloog, zo in de nek een studente.'
Dat was even meer dan ik wil weten en ik keer terug naar mijn bureau. Op de achtergrond hoor ik ze geregeld lachen en in gedachten lach ik met ze mee. Een gevoel van trots overspoelt me. Wat is het soms leuk om op Windesheim te werken.
