‘enne… dusse… uuuh… waar zou je dan willen werken?’

Sanne keek mij lachend aan en ik keek Sanne lachend aan en toen keek Sanne mij weer lachend aan en ik Sanne en we bloosden en vonden het allebei ontzettend ongepast maar tegelijkertijd heel erg interessant.

‘ … werken… tja… ik? Hmmm… bij unuh… interessante… uitdagende uuh’

De spreekkamer van het werving en selectie bureau was klein, bedompt en warm. Zo warm dat de koffie na een lange tijd nog net zo warm was als bij inschenken. Zelfs nadat ik er een kuipje roomwitte melk in had gedaan.

‘Maarre, zegeens. Wat denk jij dat ik… uuuh…. us zou moeten …uuh… gaan doen?’

Een blonde lok viel over Sannes gezicht en ik kreeg vreselijk de behoefte om die even weg te halen en haar gelijk even teder maar gepassioneerd alle hoeken punt punt punt. Iets weerhield me van actie ondernemen, misschien waren het de dunne muurtjes waar ik het monotone gemurmel van Sannes collega’s hoorde, misschien was het die fonkelende trouwring om haar vinger, misschien was het omdat we elkaar krap 10 minuten kenden. Ik weet het niet.

‘Uh ik denk dat jou.. uh jij… uuh het beste tot je recht komt in een…uuh… bij een organisatie die uuh… Moet ik even over nadenken.’

Sanne schreef wat in de kantlijn van mijn papieren CV. Ik las de tekens op z’n kop en vertaalde die in mijn hoofd. Tnevekuel. Tneve Kuel! Ik ben niet zo goed in het op z’n kop lezen/vertalen. Ze keek op en ik hield het vol om ruim 2 seconden in haar ogen te kijken. Pas toen wendde ik mijn ogen af in verlegenheid. Ze friemelde onderwijl wat aan haar trouwring.

‘Dank je voor het prettige gesprek. We houden contact.’ (ze knipperde met haar ene oog).

Ze hield de deur voor me open en gaf me een hand. Ze hield de hand net iets langer vast dan ik. Zag er lullig uit. Alsof ze een klein kind vasthield bij oversteken. Zo voelde ik me ook, dus dat kon geen toeval zijn.
